synopsis
The Esmeralda, or White Lady as she is affectionately known, is the Chilean navy’s training vessel. Her beauty hides a dark past: the rape, torture and murder of men and women. For 30 years, survivors of the Chilean coup d’état have been trying to lift the veil of secrecy over the horrors perpetrated in the hold of the white schooner in the port of Valparaíso, Chile. The government in power, versed in the art of concealment, has protected those responsible and condoned the silence. Finally, yielding to media pressure, the government released the "Valech Report" which, a posteriori, admitted wrongdoings, including torture aboard the Esmeralda. Yet impunity still reigns. A journey into extremes of light and darkness and a gripping account of the search for justice.
