Cardiff (Caerdydd) (NR)

synopsis

This is Cardiff in the 21st Century. Ambitious, bold and brash. Ceri, Lea and Elen live in one shiny apartment in the new Cardiff Bay, while Peter and Emyr live in another. This is the new generation of young Welsh speakers, city slickers and migrants from the old country going about their business -- loving, working, drinking, dancing, fighting -- in this city full of icons of growth, where the new world of image replaces the old industries, the old attitudes. No longer is Welsh or the Welsh consigned to the hills and the valleys. We too can brave this new world using our language not to set ourselves apart but as the language of the Assembly, of school friends, of new business...but not exclusively. English speakers exist, ethnic differences exist and all make up the real Cardiff, the fastest growing capital city in Europe, where success means finding your feet and then making up the rules.
