Creature

synopsis

The latest collaboration between the English National Ballet and Khan (DESH, Until the Lions), this entrancing, dystopian work is set in a dilapidated Arctic research station where a created being stunningly interpreted by dancer Jeffrey Cirio becomes sentient and falls in love. Drawing on Georg Büchner's expressionist classic Woyzeck, as well as elements of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Creature contemplates themes of alienation, impossible love and the desire to belong. In a unique collaboration where film meets dance to surprising effects, Kapadia highlights the tensions within the piece, enhancing the experience by pushing the form while working within a confined and choreographed space. Stunning widescreen and textured colours sit alongside bravura sound design, demanding that this work be seen on the big screen.
