Lake 68 (NR)

synopsis

A wave of anti-Semitism forced members of the Polish communist elite, who barely considered themselves Jewish, to emigrate in 1968. Most went to Sweden and some to Israel—but before they left, they spent their last weeks there crowded into a lake house in a small village, the home of filmmaker Irit Shamgar’s father. Now she and others who gathered there return to confront their memories. In this very personal, gentle documentary, the lazy sounds of summer are the backdrop to a discussion of complex history and ideas: about family, Marxism, Judaism, and lost childhood and time.
