A Perfect Fit (R)

synopsis

John Totersohn is tormented by nightmares that are frighteningly real. After seeking help from a psychologist, Dr. Susan Weiss, he pursues a relationship with Sarah Woods, who is vulnerable to John's good looks and boyish charm. When Sarah gets pregnant unexpectedly, John flies into a rage. Pulling himself together, he proposes to Sarah, but an impending marriage and baby are too much for John. He tightens his hold on Sarah, embarrassing her with her friends, degrading her in front of her parents and humiliating her sexually. Finally, Sarah gives up. She breaks up with John and confesses she aborted their unborn child. John snaps. Completely paranoid, John becomes convinced that Sarah and Dr. Weiss are involved in a twisted conspiracy against him. Ultimately, it is painfully clear that, although we may think we know our partners well when we choose them, our histories define us for better or worse.
