Mule Skinner Blues (NR)

synopsis

New York filmmaker Stephen Earnhart recruited the denizens of a rural Florida trailer park to appear as extras in a music video he was shooting. They soon cajoled him to shoot a movie about their world. Spearheaded by one Beanie Andrews (an ex-shrimper and recovering alcoholic boasting of "60 years in show biz"), the chronicle presents the eclectic foray of talent which was assembled: Steve Walker, a grizzled Vietnam veteran and five-times-married troubadour self-described as a "drunk musician with a future"; Ricky Lix, a rock guitarist with a teeny fuse that lights a big temper; Annabelle Lea, a costume designer who preserves the body of her beloved bulldog in a backyard freezer; Miss Jeanie, a septuagenarian yodeler who 'packs the house' at a local bar; and Larry Parrot, a janitor who bangs out scores of sci-fi stories on his creaky old typewriter. Together, this merry band of undiscovered talent pool their resources to create a horror movie about a gorilla searching a swamp for a severed arm.
