synopsis
Zoe, an American journalist, has come to Madrid to write a book on 'the myth of machismo'. With a string of broken relationships behind her, Zoe thinks she knows what to expect from the capital of 'macho', but her professional and personal preconceptions begin to crumble as she encounters people who live in a city where love and sex seem to blossom on every street corner. The men she meets further complicate her feelings, causing a great conflict between her thoughts and desires. Carl, an American university lecturer, stimulates Zoe intellectually but not sexually; Julio, a hard edged flamenco guitarist, excites her physically but offers little else. Feeling increasingly isolated and frustrated with all areas of her life, Zoe leaves Madrid and heads South with Antonio (Zoe's translator), where we discover a hidden purpose to this comedy of errors; Zoe has come to Spain to confront her past. Now she is finally faced with an opportunity to prevent history from tragically repeating itself.
