synopsis

Inside a house in the city of Delft, one artist paints his wife, his daughters and his maid performing small tasks. His paintings radiate Light, Order and Silence. Outside that house, King Louis XIV's soldiers drag mutilated Dutch women into piles and set them on fire. Refugees fill the cities. Chaos. War will cost Johannes Vermeer his creative life. It will cost his widow, Catharina, her home and her husband's paintings. In the fictional chamber opera/masque to which this history leads, Catharina dreams of what she holds most dear amidst Chaos--then wakes...
